Why The North Carolina School of Percussion is the Triad’s #1 Choice for Percussion lessons.
The North Carolina School of Percussion is North Carolina’s largest percussion school, teaching students from ages 7 to adult. Whatever percussion instrument you or your child wish to play, we teach it: Snare Drum Lessons, Drum Set Lessons, Marching Percussion Lessons, Timpani Lessons, Congas Lessons, Djembe Lessons, Afro-Cuban Percussion Lessons, Brazilian Percussion Lessons, Marimba Lessons, Steel Drum Lessons, and Vibraphone Lessons, all taught under one roof!
14 Benefits of becoming an NCSP student:
1. A proven track record of excellence since 2005.
Read our testimonials to see what our students are saying. Every fall music stores and University based community music schools hire music teachers to teach in their stores and studios. In most cases, the University schools are choosing undergraduate music majors and the music stores are hiring a combination of part time educators. The instructors tend to change yearly as students graduate and leave the area and part-time teachers come and go. The North Carolina School of music has a track record of providing high-quality music lessons in High Point, North Carolina, year-round. Our full-time mission is teaching percussion lessons and has been for over a decade.
2. A safe and secure facility
No industrial parks and half-empty strip malls with poor lighting for our students! The safety of our students, staff, and families is a primary concern for us. In addition to fully vetting or staff and instructors, we are located in an up-to-date Fine Arts facility on the campus of one of the area’s premier private schools. NCSP families enjoy large, fully lighted and secure off-street parking and key-code entry to the finest teaching facilities in the Triad.
3. A comfortable waiting area for parents.
Instead of waiting in a music retail store showroom, our clients enjoy a large quiet waiting area with comfortable chairs, free WiFi, private restrooms, work tables, coffee, and a microwave. We also provide observation windows in every door so you can watch your child’s music lesson while you wait. Or, if you prefer, you can sit in on their percussion lesson any time you like.
4. The most technologically advanced lesson rooms in the Triad, specifically designed to teach music performance.
No more small, closed-in, ill-equipped rooms in the back of a retail store or “whatever small practice room is open” on a University campus. No “drum rooms” stuck at the back end of the hallway equipped with electronic pad sets. Our facilities are fully sound-proofed and designed for music instruction. Every room features audio and video recording and playback capabilities. At NCSP you will experience drum set rooms with crowned mirrors to allow the instructors to see the student performance from every angle, a large keyboard percussion room with full-length, full-wall mirrors so the student can see their movement on the instruments, and a timpani room that mimics the wide-open concert hall environment where these instruments are played. All of our music lessons are taught in facilities designed around each particular percussion instrument.
5. Website access to lesson materials as well as the constant ability to communicate directly with your instructor.
Forget exactly how that technique you learned in your marimba lesson was done? Don’t wait until next week to find out. Chat directly with your instructor all week long! At NCSP each student has their own webpage connected to the school’s website. On that page are all the materials from their lessons and assignments. PDF’s, mp3’s, and videos are all located there for them print, listen to and watch. They audio and video may be slowed down to better aid the student in learning. In addition, the students and parents can chat, directly with their instructor, all week long. Technology is changing how we learn, and how we teach. The North Carolina School of Percussion is at the cutting edge of those changes.
6. Distance Learning programs
Live too far away from NCSP to attend regular weekly lessons? We have you covered. NCSP is a pioneer in distance learning techniques and offers the same curriculum, the same teachers, and the same support that our on-site students receive…through live video training anywhere in the world. Schedule your music lesson as you would onsite, turn on your computer, connect to WiFi, activate your special camera and audio device available through NCSP and begin your live lesson with your instructor while they are online at the school. We are one of only a handful of schools across the country to offer full, live, distance learning opportunities.
7. Free recitals in our fully equipped, 1000 seat theater located at our school.
We are the only percussion school in North Carolina that offers free recitals in a first-class professional theater. Every parent wants to know how their child is doing and if they are really progressing. One of the best ways for a parent to understand if their investment in lessons is really worth it is to watch their child as they participate in a recital. Throughout the year many of our students choose to perform at our recitals on campus. It becomes a fun event that they look forward to so that they can “show-off” what they have learned.
8. “NCSP Live” nights at local establishments in the Triad.
Throughout the year we feature many of our students “sitting in” with professional players from the area. NCSP sets up the stage, hires the musicians, and invites or students, free of charge, to join the musician on stage to perform music that the students have learned in their lessons. These nights have become a favorite for students, their families, and their friends as they meet up, enjoy a meal at a local restaurant with the families and friends of other students, and watch their kids playing live with a professional band. Music is about playing, sharing, and enjoying the activity with others. We get that at NCSP and continue to provide opportunities like this for our students.
9. Trophies, certificates and awards to celebrate achievement.
We are the only curriculum driven music school in the Triad and one of less than a dozen curriculum driven percussion schools in the country. Our students earn certificates, awards and trophies at each step along the way. Much more meaningful than “participation awards” that may be used elsewhere, these awards certify a level of mastery on their instrument. As each level is obtained, the students not only receive the awards but are also featured in our monthly newsletters and press releases.
10. Student discount cards
We are the only percussion school in the Triad to provide our students with discount cards to local music retailers so they can save on anything from instruments to music books and accessories.
11. Online student “bookstore”.
Every school needs a bookstore, at NCSP, we go that one better! Each of our students has private access to our online bookstore where they can purchase supplies, instruments, wearables, mallets, bags, etc. at discount pricing that we have secured with the manufacturers specifically for our students. In addition, we have a used equipment area on the site. When students are ready to upgrade their equipment, they may list their used items on this area of the site. Not only does it allow them to sell their used equipment, but it also allows other students to get a deal on the equipment they need to get started or move forward. In addition, NCSP monitors the availability of used percussion equipment across the country and, when an especially good deal pops up, we buy it and make it available to our students through the same site.
12. Annual “day trips” to percussion manufacturing facilities.
Ever seen a drum being made from scratch through the finished product? We are located only a short drive from the manufacturing facilities of two of the most highly regarded drum companies in the world. Each summer we load up and take a day trip to visit either the Ludwig Drum company’s production facility or the Gretsch Drums manufacturing facility. Our students never seem to tire of watching the sheets of wood become a drum right before their eyes.
13. Located in High Point, in the heart of the Triad.
Due to our central location on the corner of Eastchester Drive and North Centennial Street our school is convenient to all areas of he Triad. Close to our school you will find shopping, dining, and the nationally recognized campus of High Point University. Our location serves students from High Point as well as the neighboring communities of Greensboro, Winston-Salem, Kernersville, Lexington, Thomasville, Asheboro, Archdale, Trinity, and others throughout Guilford, Forsyth, Randolph, and Davidson counties.
